#87 Becoming a Warrior

Bruce Lee is a true warrior. He’s a fighter, with expertise in combat. A warrior is often thought of in the physical sense, as a fighter and physically strong. But Bruce Lee was a true warrior in mind, body, and spirit.

Shannon comes from a lineage of warriors and has been exploring what being a true warrior means for her.

What does it take for us to become true warriors?

“The warrior is the average man with laser-like focus.”

There is no language about fighting or physical prowess in this quote, but what does Bruce Lee mean by “laser-like focus”? Laser-like is to put intense energy towards something.

To be a warrior is a big commitment in one’s life and Bruce put an intense, energetic beam of focus towards that goal.

For Bruce, being a warrior was actually about one’s growth and healing, and the combination of using your mind, body, and spirit in harmony toward the cultivation of one’s self.

Bruce was a warrior in the broader sense of life. Every day Bruce got up with the intention of working on himself, bettering himself, actualizing himself, and cultivating his own essence and energy. He did this in a way that benefited himself and everyone around him.

Bruce Lee was so committed to this laser-like focus that he was able to achieve so much in a short time, and seemed at times super-human. His embodiment of his warrior focus could be intimidating.

Becoming a true warrior is about taking action towards this path and living your life by your own warrior code.

For Shannon, she is at the point in her life where she has done enough self-work and gone through enough trials that she can now physically step forward into this place of really living the warrior life in a very active and engaged way. Shannon now has the energy to combine the different parts of her life and pursue her path with laser-like focus. The expectation of being Bruce Lee’s daughter is that Shannon should have been born a fully formed warrior, but Bruce Lee emphasized the importance of finding your on path.

After many years of feeling untethered, Shannon found herself turning to face the energy of her father and began to pursue her own warrior path.

What Bruce Lee has to offer so many people is healing. Healing through growth, but also mental and physical healing to the place where you are living a more fully engaged life. For Shannon, she has been more engaged with the growth aspect of being a warrior than the healing part of being a warrior. She has neglected her physical healing, but she is working towards creating more energy for herself physically. Shannon is naturally strong and athletic, but has been functioning at her most optimal and has noticed her energy depleting as she’s gotten older.

Bruce was a masculine warrior and had a robust support system in his wife Linda. Linda supported him emotionally, cooked his meals, raised his children, and managed the household.

Shannon is a feminine warrior. She has created several businesses, created a daughter, been a single mom, created a home, and is responsible for her father’s legacy. Shannon has a great support system with her friends, but they do not live with her and therefore cannot offer the same kind of support that her mother Linda offered her father Bruce. Up until recently, Shannon has been draining her energy battery without replenishing it. She had been hoping that the universe would manifest that support and energy for her instead of creating it for herself, which a warrior does.

Without the healing, the growth is limited. In a state of being a true warrior there is not an aspect of you that you ignore.

There is an attitude in the warrior of persistence; you never stop working towards something for very long. You are devoted to yourself and to universal principles that are important to you and greater than just personal gain.

You cannot be a warrior in isolation. Warriors cultivate themselves and are in community. In truth, a warrior interacts with people. Everyday the warrior gets up and does battle toward the life that they want and toward the service that they want to provide. They do this with their whole heart and a warrior’s actions always have meaning and come from personal choice.

Bruce Lee cultivated himself in a deep way; he researched and documented his experience. Then, he taught it, shared it, put it in his movies, helped his friends, and influenced a culture.

A true warrior is lead by their heart.

“Warriors have the discipline to change their behavior for the sake of honorable ends.”

The warrior path is not an easy path, it takes commitment, work, and effort. You will have struggles and failures along the way, and it will take time. You are shifting towards your more true self when you decide to pursue the warrior path.

“Not tense, but ready.”

For those of you feeling called to the warrior awakening, to start you have to have an honest assessment of where you need help, what you’re good at, your strengths, and your weaknesses. You have to have courage to pursue your warrior awakening; it is not an easy undertaking.
